August 2020 Newsletter
Hello, and an amazing August to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
Today's issue is about treating a symptom as opposed to the real problem.
Enjoy!
Are you treating the symptom or the problem?
|
When you start getting a headache, feeling that tightness in your brow or ache in your
temples, it isn't from a painkiller deficiency. Taking a pill to suppress this symptom
is telling your body "I don't want to address what's really wrong with you. I'm busy
right now, so stop complaining!".
|
Headaches are rare for me. When one starts coming on now, it's often from too much
thinking and trying, usually at the computer. Or it's from dehydration, which can sneak
up on me in this hot summer weather, if I'm caught up in some activity and not paying
attention to how my body feels. For either of these causes, the fix is obvious, and it's not a pill.
|
In my energy medicine studies, it comes up again and again how central emotions
are in physical healing. This is true for minor ailments like a headache, and also for
bigger problems, which can start small, then if shoved aside or covered up, will only
grow more intense. We are meant to have fulfilling enjoyable lives, not to struggle and suffer.
|
My teaching about vision improvement can involve more than eyesight. How do you see yourself,
as a thriving vibrant being, or as someone who has to take care of others with no help? Or
pehaps you see yourself as someone who rarely does anything right, and is destined for failure.
The way you look at Life can tell your eyes and visual system "Seeing is work, a big struggle",
which could lead to chronic eyestrain, or something worse.
|
What if seeing clearly could be easy? What if your relationships, or finances, or health,
could be satisfying, even fun? Looking for patterns in my attitude and behavior has helped
me move from treating symptoms to identifying underlying problems, both for myself and
for my clients. An argumentative attitude could make interactions with family or
colleagues or salespeople troublesome. Maybe the difficulty is not that cranky uncle after
all, it's that I'm always expecting a fight!
|
You've heard "Be careful what you wish for", or "What you focus on, grows". If we approach an
encounter anticipating friction, with a chip on our shoulder, that's probably what we'll get. We can
see unexpected little roadblocks to our progress as calamaties, that the Universe is conspiring
against us. Or we can see these as a chance to learn something, to build our coping muscles, and to
grow. Take the time to look underneath the presenting problem, to see if it reminds you of
something similar in your past. Maybe you weren't ready to deal with the root cause then, yet you
are now. Do what you can to make your life as rich and expansive and satisfying as it can be.

Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine
or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing
that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see
a question you asked me in a private session written about here.
You're helping many other people!
Enjoy the start of this abundant month of August.
I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
