June 2025 Newsletter

Hello, and a joyous June to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter. Today's issue is about how seeing is connecting. Enjoy!

Seeing is connecting
inspector examining something Our human senses are the way we interpret our environment. Is this a safe person, or substance, or situation, or is it putting me in danger? A bitter taste leads us to spit out the food, while a raucous shrieking noise leads us to cover our ears. We learn as babies that a scary angry face is to be avoided, while a warm friendly one invites us to come closer. When we don't like what we see or it doesn't make us feel good, isn't it possible that we might stop looking with so much interest?

As a child, I was more comfortable losing myself between the pages of a book than I was interacting with other people, who could criticize me or yell at me. I was already wearing glasses in first grade, reaching out my imagination into the stories I read, looking at those scenes in my mind, but not reaching out much hoping to connect with those around me. And unfortunately, the glasses I wore reinforced my myopic habits, especially since I hardly did anything without them.

reaching out to connect It was quite a change when I started to improve my vision and reduce my dependence on glasses and contact lenses, even daring to do some things with no "correction" at all. When I drove through a construction zone at about 2 miles an hour, with my glasses perched on top of my head as I inched forward, I felt so triumphant! I was driving without glasses, something I had never imagined was possible. When I re-entered the normal traffic flow and put my glasses back on since I was driving faster now, I hung onto that feeling of victory, confident I'd be doing less with glasses soon enough.

Those heavy thick glasses on my face had often made me feel trapped, like my eyes were in a cage. I wondered if other people felt sorry for me, like those sad animals caged behind bars at the zoo. Without glasses I felt freer, and also more exposed and vulnerable. When I introduced myself to a classmate at an energy training, daring myself to go without glasses the entire weekend, I told her I was nearsighted, bracing for criticism. She looked at me closely, then said "You don't look nearsighted". I was thrilled (my flaw wasn't visible!), then wondered if I needed to update my view of myself.

Dalai Lama quote about moving toward Coaches and energy teachers encourage us to gently put our bad habits behind us by the way we talk about ourselves. Saying "I've always been terrible at ...." only reinforces that behavior, keeping you tied to it. You can try "I used to be ...." or "I'm learning to let go of ..." instead. I no longer call myself nearsighted, although my vision is not perfect every minute. Similarly, I'm less likely to own the label of "introvert" to justify a desire to be alone. I do want to be connected with others, to share our feelings and stories, though I may not want this all day long, or to be with a noisy crowd like at a sports event.

When I look back at my younger self in those thick glasses, I realize I did not want to be connected to most other people, or to what I saw around me unless it was a book I was reading, or a teacher imparting some wisdom I hoped to absorb. Many years later, I am now grateful to have friends and family I love connecting with, where I don't feel I have to suppress who I am to fit in. A brief conversation with a new neighbor is a delight, even if it's only about her small dog. And my visual system is glorying in all the rich colors and scenes I see if I just open my eyes and look, especially the new Spring flowers. What can you find to delight your vision today?

Upcoming EFT series with a master teacher
My skilled insightful EFT teacher Dr. Carol Look is offering a 6-session series now, Yes To Abundance. I can't recommend Carol's work highly enough. Note that your own abundance challenge may be financial, or with health, relationships, or in some other area. Our first activation session was on May 19th, available by replay, with the rest live throughout June. You can check out all the details here.

Have you wondered if my work could help you?
I'm now offering complimentary Discovery Session consultations of 20 minutes or so, for us to discuss what you're looking for in a coach, and to see whether you and I feel like a fit to work together formally. To schedule your Discovery Session, click here.

Do you want your own copy of future newsletters?

Please send me your questions and comments
Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see a question you asked me in a private session written about here. You're helping many other people! Enjoy the start of this juicy month of June. I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
