Mid-October 2024 Newsletter

Hello, and a marvelous original Mid-October to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter. Today's issue is about doing one thing at a time. Enjoy!

One thing at a time!
blurry letters spelling 'focus' When multi-tasking was so widely celebrated and promoted as an aid to productivity, most of us who tried it realized it doesn't work. Trying to do multiple tasks at once is a recipe for overwhelm, for feeling constantly distracted, for making mistakes, and yet still missing important things. What you're doing right now needs to have your full focus, even if it's for a short time, then you can move on to do something else.

A common error new students of vision improvement make is to try to see everything in front of them with the same degree of clarity. This is not the way human eyes are designed to work. Ideally, we see only a small area in clear detailed focus, before we move our gaze to examine another area which interests us. Our eyes make these tiny shifts, which are called saccades, so rapidly and automatically, we're usually not aware of this physical action.

target wih bullseye Vision happens mostly in the brain. The eyeballs respond to the brain's direction to look. This is like the brain telling the hands to perform some complicated maneuver like reaching to grasp something, or playing a musical instrument. The brain runs the show, with the eyes and hands and other parts of our body doing the brain's bidding, to the best of their ability.

We can't play an instrument and reach to pick up something else simultaneously, we have to do one or the other. Trying to spread our vision or other capabilities over separate goals isn't efficient or effective. One of the main attractions of multi-processing is that you'll get more done, except that you don't. It's often accompanied by rushing, which can also be error-prone. I've written about vision and rushing before, here.

autumn tree Focusing on a task, or gazing appreciatively at something we enjoy, long enough to be satisfied and feel complete, is so much better for our mental health! "Be here now" the Wise Ones say. Only then are you ready to move on to the next Here, and the next Now. Yesterday my hairdresser guy told me he recently realized that in years past, he has spent most of our vibrant autumn season dreading the cold icy winter to come, not fully noticing the beauty all around him in the moment. This was a big shift for him.

We can imagine and visualize the past or future, but we can only use our open-eyed vision to connect with our environment in the present. When I was taught mantra meditation 15 years ago, which I still do faithfully every morning, the teacher said it's fine if your mind wanders, since that's what minds do. Just come back to the mantra. If you have an itch or a twitch, come back to the mantra, keeping your focus there. When we examine something visually, we pick up more details and nuances, exploring and learning, as we deepen our understanding. The more we look, curiously and gently, the more we'll know.

Upcoming EFT series with a master teacher
My skilled insightful EFT teacher Dr. Carol Look is offering a 6-session series shortly, Tapping Into Abundance. I can't recommend Carol's work highly enough. We'll have an Activation call to start us off on October 28th at 3PM Eastern, then 5 sessions in November. Note that your own abundance challenge may be financial, or with health, relationships, or in some other area. You can check out the details here. Hope to see you there!

Have you wondered if my work could help you?
I'm now offering complimentary Discovery Session consultations of 20 minutes or so, for us to discuss what you're looking for in a coach, and to see whether you and I feel like a fit to work together formally. To schedule your Discovery Session, click here.

Do you want your own copy of future newsletters?
If a friend forwarded this to you, or you're reading it from Facebook or LinkedIn, this is a hit-or-miss method of receiving it, and you might not see it next time. If you'd like to be on my distribution list, you can join here. You can un-subscribe at any time. Thank you!

Please send me your questions and comments
Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see a question you asked me in a private session written about here. You're helping many other people! Enjoy the second half of this oh-how-special month of October. I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
