Mid-September 2016 Newsletter
Hello, and a marvelous Mid-Septembr to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter. The photo above shows me
in a favorite outdoor location, arms out to embrace Nature. I like
that I'm facing the camera with my eyes open. Do you want to see
what's in front of you?
Today's issue has an article on the effect belief has on
accomplishing your goals.
Enjoy!
Do you believe you can achieve your goal?

Remember the childrens's story "The Little Engine That
Could"? Her motto was "I think I can. I think I can," as
she kept chugging along toward her goal. Parents use this
tale to encourage youngsters to "stay the course" when they
want something, to complete the project instead of quitting,
to believe in themselves and their growing ability.
And sometimes adults need to hear this too.
Even the most optimistic person falls prey to despair sometimes.
You hit a snag you didn't see coming, and momentarily feel
the Universe is against you. You had a great plan, and something
out of your control went wrong. It could be the weather, or
a computer network across the country. "I plan, and God laughs!",
you think ruefully. Yet you pick yourself up, dust off your
scrapes, and keep going.

History is full of examples of folks who accomplished something
great, after many "failures". Maybe a failure is just learning
what not to do! Thomas Edison didn't make one try at inventing
a light bulb, then give up when that didn't pan out. Ralph Waldo
Emerson said "Nothing great was acheived without enthusiasm".
People who accomplish great things are excited about their goals,
and excited about doing the work needed to get there.
I'll bet you know someone who is always on a new diet, and has
been trying to lose weight for years but making little progress.
This person will say things like "I'll always be fat!" or "My
family doesn't know how to celebrate except with sweets and
dessert". Yes, this is a challenge, and maybe your friend could be
the one to institute heathly family eating, to help everyone lose
weight! When you don't believe it's possible, you're defeated
before you start.
Years ago, I either read somewhere or came up with myself how to walk
a straight line across a field. I think I was pretty little, since it's
such a simple idea, but I've never forgotten it. Before you start across
the field, pick a tree on the other side. Then start walking toward it,
keeping your eyes on it as you move forward. That's it! Look all around or
at your feet, and you'll walk in a meandering zig-zag pattern, traveling
much farther than necessary. Keep your eyes on the
goal and you'll head straight for it.
Henry Ford said "Whether you believe you can, or believe you can't,
you're right!". Why not believe you can, then watch it happen?
