October 2024 Newsletter
Hello, and an outstanding October to you!
Welcome, or welcome back, to my newsletter.
Today's issue is about taking your time.
Enjoy!
Are you rushing, or taking your time?
|
Since the school year is well underway now, teachers and students alike may be putting "their noses to the grindstone" and working hard,
only expecting to fully relax when winter vacation arrives in a few months. Hard work and long hours are rewarded, and taking a break is considered lazy.
"I'll rest when I'm dead!" they say.
|
Autumn and winter, with their colder temperatures and scant sunlight, are when people spend most of their time indoors, and are more likely to be sick than in
the warmer weather. To me this is partly from pushing ourselves too hard, "burning the candle at both ends" and not taking enough breaks, so our bodies and minds
are never in Recovery Mode. We wouldn't drive a high-performance vehicle endlessly without putting fuel in it, yet we do this to ourselves.
|
Is that angry energy pushing you to go faster and do more from a boss or teacher, or from inside of you? Often folks find the only time they're given
permission to go more slowly is when they get injured or ill, and physically cannot continue at that intense pace. In my corporate job another programmer
was referred to scornfully as a "one-speeder" since he never rushed, yet he always completed his projects. He seemed content, while I was usually anxious and stressed.
|
Folks new to vision improvement often want to know how long it will take to reach their particular goal, as if this process is a race to the finish line. Think of all the
old sayings praising taking your time: "act in haste, repent at leisure" or "slow and steady wins the race" or "take time to smell the roses", or my mother's favorite whenever she caught me rushing
as a child and wanted me to go more slowly, "haste makes waste!".
|
Proceeding more deliberately most of the time feels like I'm in control, in the moment, rather than charging ahead with my focus on a future goal. This future-focus does not feel relaxing, instead somewhat desperate,
full of that "trying" energy which we know is so destructive in vision improvement. See if you can loosen that urgent feeling of being under pressure. Let Life come to you at its own pace, imagining yourself strolling
forward with a welcoming attitude to accept what is being offered to you.
|
You've probably heard about Hurry Sickness, that feeling of being constantly behind, falling short of your deadlines. This leads to an attitude of urgency in everything you do, as if there's never enough time. Most of us have
been in this state at least briefly, say when cramming for finals, or when preparing for a big presentation, or when dealing with a crisis at home. Yet this revved-up state is meant to be temporary, for true emergencies,
not be our permanent condition. If we're in fight-or-flight for too long, our health, physical, emotional, and yes, visual, will start to suffer. If you meander a bit rather than sprinting forward, you'll truly appreciate every step of your journey.

Please send me your questions and comments
Let me know what you've wondered about concerning energy medicine
or vision or dreams. I'll be glad to write a short article addressing
that topic. Thank you to those who have sent me questions, or see
a question you asked me in a private session written about here.
You're helping many other people!
Enjoy the start of this over-the-top month of October.
I'll write again in a few weeks. Take care!
