Vision improvement is a lifestyle

When people start a personal vision improvement practice, they often approach it like a gym workout, thinking they have to get their visual system "in shape".
They ask how many minutes a day they should do
palming
or other vision practices, and also how fast they can expect to see improvement. I was like this in the beginning too, understanding at some level that I needed
to reduce the tension in my visual system, though not sure how. Maybe palming every day (during which I was quite impatient) would be the magic ritual to bring
my eyes and me to tranquility.

On my first visit to a behavioral optometrist over 20 years ago, hoping against hope to discover the secret to improving my -10 myopia, he said there were no organic
defects in my eyes like cataracts or glaucoma, I just had a lot of tension in my visual system. Back then I had a lot of tension in my entire body! I've spent the years since
slowly reducing that tension, with gentle vision practices, meditation, rigorous physical exercise, and energy practices like
EFT.
Vision improvement is not only about the eyes, it's about the whole body, and the mind, and the attitude. Are you meeting what's in front of you with eager anticipation, or
with resentment or fear or dread? Your eyes will feel this energy, and either welcome the view, or resist it.

Treating a single symptom as if it's the entire or only problem doesn't usually work. Holistic, naturopathic, and alternative doctors and practitioners are getting more
attention now, as people are starting to realize "a pill for every ill" isn't a true solution, that they'll need to adjust their habits which have led to their trouble.
Maybe they need to spend more time outdoors away from a computer screen, which will help their attitude as well as their body, including their vision. Or they need to eat
more fruits and vegetables, or give up cigarettes or alcohol.

If your eyes are getting tired, how is your energy overall? This busy time of year, with holiday preparations and family commitments, as well as the usual responsibilities,
can be a strain on the healthiest of us. Make sure you're getting enough rest, and spending time with whatever nourishes you, whether that's like-minded caring friends, or solitary
time in Nature, or pursuing something creative.

Speaking of sun, the winter solstice will be here in about a week, when the daylight starts increasing a minute or two a day in the Northern Hemisphere. Although I am more comfortable
seeing in low light than I ever was, this additional sunlight during the day lifts my spirits, as well as helping me see more clearly. Another thing that lifts my spirits is exercise. Even going
for a brisk walk will do it, I don't have to do a strenuous weight workout. Whatever lifts your spirits will get your energy flowing and help your vision too.

The eyes are not separate from the rest of our body. In fact, they are part of our brain. What makes you feel good, like a healthy meal or time with people you love, is nourishing your visual system too.
Please don't ignore your precious sensitive eyes, or their complaint of eyestrain. This is a plea for care or some attention, like a baby's cries. Give your eyes whatever they need which makes them feel good,
and your entire body, mind, and spirit will benefit, not only your vision.
